If you are at this page, then you received the link from me about how to start with Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Litecoin. Below is some information I hope is useful to you on your introduction to this exciting new class of assets.
Cryptography is, basically, encryption.
Cryptocurrency is the reward given to a computer/user (usually known as a Miner) that helps solve the cryptography problem that validates transactions on a “block” in the chain of “blocks” (Blockchain). Bitcoin, Litecoin, and other “cryptocurrency” are usually the reward for that work on whatever blockchain they are working in. There are many blockchain types/technologies–over 1,500! Miners then sell this reward for cash or use it to trade (read as “buy”) something else considered equal value. These coins/tokens are traded (bought/sold) on cryptocurrency markets. Now, not all cryptocurrency has a reward that is generated or “mined” for validating a transaction in the Blockchain, some currency have all the reward out there already, like IOTA. You will learn all of this, and a lot more, during your own research into this asset class but below is a quick video on what most of the currencies are built on, the Blockchain.

I credit Robinhood for getting me started on trading assets. Their commission-free trading allowed me to learn by actually trading, for free! Use what you learn on basic trading principles, from places like Investopedia.com, to practice in Robinhood:
Robinhood will soon be supporting trading cryptocurrency starting in February! Click here to sign up to get to access first along with your free stock!

NOTE: I AM NOT A FINANCIAL ADVISOR. I AM NOT A LAWYER. ALL TRANSACTIONS OF CRYPTOCURRENCY ARE FINAL! MOST PLACES DO NOT OFFER CANCELLATIONS OF ORDERS OR REFUNDS OF CRYPTOCURRENCY. BEFORE YOU CLICK/TAP “CONFIRM” MAKE SURE THE ORDER IS WHAT YOU WANT. CRYPTOCURRENCY IS NEW SO THEREFORE VERY “VOLATILE”, MEANING THE PRICE CHANGES A LOT IN A RELATIVELY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH ON THIS TECHNOLOGY BEFORE TRADING IT. UNDERSTANDING THE FUNDAMENTALS OF TRADING WILL HELP! TRADE AT YOUR OWN RISK !
